Artist Statement What happens at the point of intersection between artist and activist? Where is the line drawn between expressing and advocating? I create work that combines my personal experiences with present issues in our society. As an artist, it is my job to interpret the world we live in and the realities of our every day. To consider broad constructs such as racial injustice, LGBTqia2S+ rights, and gender in society we must look at our personal relationships and the intimate interactions we have during our day-to-day lives. I am interested in creating an environment where individuals have the opportunity to self-reflect and explore their thoughts and opinions on social issues. Weaving and silkscreen techniques utilize structure and imagery that is carefully chosen to create large-scale pieces using custom-designed patterns to conceptually represent the ideas being explored. The emotional reflection the viewer has after encountering the work is just as important as the visual experience itself.
